The Records & Information Services Division of the Clerk's office is charged with maintaining, protecting and preserving the records of the Clerk's office as well as the records of numerous county agencies. We currently have two records repositories: one is located at the Citrus County Courthouse and the other at the Historic Courthouse.
Florida has a tradition of open government and access to public records. The public records law has been in effect in some form since 1909. Chapter 119, Florida Statutes is the current version of the public records law. Chapter 119 states that "every person who has custody of a public record shall permit the record to be inspected and examined by any person desiring to do so, at any reasonable time, under reasonable conditions, and under supervision by the custodian of the public record or his designee." Our records management program is set up to ensure that the right document gets to the right person at the right time for the lowest possible cost.
